Two Brothers See Great Benefits of Notus

Trawlmaster

The Murdock brothers both have twin rig vessels are using Notus to wirelessly monitor: the spread on EACH net, three warp lengths and the middle wire adjustment. The vessels have one sensor in each door and two on the clump. The vessels are targeting prawns and are currently fishing in Northeast Scotland. The aside is a typical graphic that a skipper sees in the wheelhouse.

By monitoring the spread on EACH net, equal bulk can be taken in each trawl. As well, gear problems can instantly be detected. Therefore, small damage does not turn into a huge reduction in fishing time. Captain Lee Murdock of the Daisy II comments “It does a good job as we use Notus all the time.” He further comments “We know by the spread displayed if we pick up a boulder.” In this case, a large decrease in spread is seen. If the footgear goes into the mud a similar spread reduction is seen. Captain Murdock also comments “spread tells us if we break a bridal.”

Both brothers have been extremely pleased with their Notus gear. “We put the Notus system into the Willing Lad when we built it in 2010. ” says Captain Murdock. They''ve also used Notus on the Daisy II for the past 6 months.
