CF8

THE NETHERLANDS, Muiden. Sea Level Yacht Design & Engineering, the Dutch superyacht design studio, has launched an innovative future concept called CF8, which stands for Cars and Family in 80m.

The basic premise of the CF8 project is that, in the future travelling to and from your yacht will take a matter of minutes rather than days and hours. Therefore, the amenities on board should reflect the changing nature of superyacht usage.

Using a hypothetical owner, who, according to Jeroen van der Knaap, design director at Sea Level, is “a progressive, sporty person with a preference for new design, visible innovation…who needs to be able to take his car collection on board,” the design team created the CF8.

Throughout the design there are two basic shapes that form the recognisable hull and superstructure. Firstly, the strong outer structure of the CF8 borrows and develops lines from the world of performance sports cars. The aggressive axe line that flows from the aft portion of the upper hull towards the bow gives the CF8 a strong aerodynamic form.

Secondly, the seemingly suspended spherical centre volume, inspired by the showroom of Louwman Exclusive Cars in the Netherlands, houses a number of CF8’s social spaces as well as featuring a 100m2 car showroom of its own. The glass panels provide a fantastic opportunity to flood the interior with natural light. The on board showroom is accessed via a boarding platform, granting the owner access to any car in his collection for any occasion.

To ensure design feasibility, the CF8 is designed with large centreline structures that support the deck levels inside the glass volume and the levels above. The width of the yacht offers stability and large interior volumes. The CF8 project has an LOA of 80m and a beam of 30m, her maximum speed is 18knots at half load.
