Amico & Co completes extension on former superyacht Delma

During an intensive refit completed by Italian shipyard Amico & Co in Genoa, the Greek built superyacht formerly known as Delma, once 85 metres, has been lengthened to 91.5 metres – the largest and most expensive project ever under taken by the shipyard. Now with the rebuild stages complete, the yard is about to enter the certification and ultimately commissioning phases of the project before she sets sail for the first time in 16 months.

The complex procedure saw a 16 metre section of the hull having to be cut back in order to conform to the required hydrodynamic specifications once lengthened. To ensure all work was conducted on time and according to class regulations, a total of 9 in-house project managers and technical staff was on site to oversee the project.

“We have been investing in our facilities and human resources with precisely this kind of large-scale engineering project in mind,” says CEO Alberto Amico. “It is thanks to these investments and the teamwork of our in-house departments with all their technical experience and know-how that we have been able to perform such a challenging refit.”

In addition to the lengthening of the vessel, this period offered the perfect opportunity to replace her main engines with twin MTU 20V 4000 M93L engines, including three new MTU generators. A complete foundation rebuild was required to accommodate these new units.

Cosmetics works also include new additions to the exterior decks including spa and relaxation area such a whirlpool on sundeck, with works continuing to the interior where nearly 80 per cent of all guest areas have been refurbished. On the lower deck aft, a new floodable tender garage will make launching and retrieving of the tender a smoother operation. This area can also be closed off and converted into a heated seawater swimming area.
