Live from Singapore: Floating Life at SYS 2016

Charter, yacht management and brokerage specialists Floating Life is one of the 2016 Singapore Yacht Show event sponsors. We briefly speak with company Chairman Barbara Tambani on what needs to be done to educate potential local clients about the yachting industry.

How are you enjoying the show so far?

It is our second year at the show, and I can say that it has developed a lot since last year and it seems to be growing quite fast. We are one of the event sponsors, having provided some of the event clothing. However, our core business is the brokering, chartering and management of yachts.

What do you find are the biggest regional issues that needs to be addressed at the moment?

We as operators need to educate the local market about what it means to charter or possibly own a superyacht in terms of costs and what it is they can expect from the experience. This will of course take time, but I feel it is an interesting market that requires patience in order to see results.

We are also finding it difficult to have clients relocate their charter yachts to this region and to see what these cruising grounds have to offer. Of course moving your yacht over here and not receiving any charters can be a disaster. So this is where local education can be applied to encourage clients in the region to try the charter experience first hand; something which is not quite in line with their general lifestyle.
