As a sparkling design, naval architecture and engineering studio, we are involved in the entire building process and development of superyachts for private customers and shipyards worldwide.

Our team of 80 dedicated professionals believe that good design is more than meets the eye. It is a question of how well the design works and feels at sea. Therefore we believe in a true holistic approach and that is what makes us unique. With this we are able to realise better ships in less time.

Since 1961 our studio has created over 7,000 designs, and owners and captains rave about our high quality, no-nonsense, go-anywhere ships. A good design shouldn’t just meet the set requirements but they should surpass them to create a boat that goes beyond dreams.

Our holistic design method is fundamental in allowing us to work at the cutting edge of design and technology. This one-stop-shop philosophy allows clients to have one point of contact for the creation of their yacht. We don’t just design yachts, we engineer fantasies!

Q : How were you introduced to the world of superyacht design?

Vripack is a holistic design, naval architect and engineering studio that was founded in 1961 and has been presenting its innovative and original designs ever since. We have a team of over 80 people who were all introduced to the yachting industry in their own special way; some of them by following their passion, others because of their education or just because they grew up with it. At Vripack it is even possible to start as an intern and end up as one of the directors like Bart Bouwhuis. This shows that Vripack is a transparent organisation that engineers fantasies, even for its own personnel.

Q : Where does the inspiration for new projects come from?

VriThink.com—a website that helps to connect minds.

As a creative company with the benefits of fresh minds, Vripack created an open trend platform called; VriThink! One of the goals of VriThink! is to generate an open stage in order to produce and develop forward- thinking designs. The platform shows how various innovative, social, economic and design trends happening in all industries around the world can be related to the yachting industry. The trends can be used to inspire and highlight various decisions. This creates a whole new dimension in making future designs.

Q : If there were an award for the best design of all time, which one would you choose?

Vripack has a dedicated team of people who are working on various designs every day. So, to give an answer from Vripack’s point of view we held a poll! The results show that the design of the Aston Martin DB9 is very popular (19 per cent), but also Dutch successes like the Delta Works (16 per cent) as an engineering highlight was mentioned. The big winner is very typical and Vripack alike, because most team members selected their own home (27 per cent) as the best design of all time. It isn’t one design in particular but for a lot of people it certainly is the most special one; home sweet home, and that’s how it should be!
