Fincantieri books $478 million cruise ship order

Fincantieri and Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings (NCLH) have reached an agreement for the construction of the second ultra-luxury cruise ship for the Regent Seven Seas Cruises brand.

The contract, which is worth euro 422 million (about $478 million), is effective immediately and all conditions have been met.

The new vessel will be delivered in 2020 and will be a sister ship to Seven Seas Explorer, set for delivery later this year from Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente (Genoa) shipyard.

The 54,000 gt, 223 m ship will have some 370 spacious passenger suites. Like her sister ship, the new vessel will incorporate the latest environmental protection technologies. Interiors will be particularly sophisticated, with every attention paid to passenger comfort.

"When we began conceptualizing Seven Seas Explorer a little over four years ago, we knew from the onset that she would be something special and make an immediate and lasting impression in the marketplace," said Frank Del Rio, President and Chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.

New ship will be a sister to Seven Seas Explorer, which was launched last November
