Mondomarine launch largest superyacht to date, the 60m Sarastar

SYT attended the launch of Italian shipyard’s largest superyacht to date this afternoon in Savona, that of the 60 metre M60s model designed in her entirety by Luca Dini for an Italian owner.

Named Sarastar, she is constructed entirely in aluminium and is the first of a series of vessels ranging from 41.5 to 64 metres. The understated yet luxurious launch event was attended by the owner - who also owns the Mondomarine-built superyacht Nameless - with his friends and family, as well as the team involved in her design and construction.

She accommodates guests over five generous cabins on the lower deck, with the owner’s suite located on the main deck. Notable features include the full beam sky lounge on the upper deck, which is particularly spacious and presents the ideal area to relax and socialise.

Two Italian artists contributed to further stand out features on board; Baldi, who designed the impressive dining table formed by an extensive slab asymmetrically suspended on a base of crystal ‘scales’ in amber and smoke colours as well as Lorenzo Malfatti, who created the spectacular wall feature enclosing the staircase to the guest areas from the lower to the upper deck.

Here we talk to Mondomarine’s CEO, Roberto Zambrini, who discussed his thoughts on the yard’s latest superyacht offering.

What does this launch mean to Mondomarine?

This is a very important yacht for us, as she is the biggest vessel we have ever built here at Mondomarine. For three years we have been working very hard with a very demanding client, so we’re very satisfied to be at this point at this time of the year. We have worked very hard.

What are your personal highlights on board Sarastar?

My personal highlights are the unconventional interior - there’s a lot of fine pieces of art, and she’s a real Italian masterpiece. The art on board is from an Italian artisan. The stairs are also a particular highlight, a masterpiece made of glass, as well as the extensive use of marble and onyx. She is a typical, luxurious design.

After yourself and Mr. Falciai acquired the yard, you stated that you intended to enhance the uniqueness of every Mondomarine design. How has this been achieved on board this vessel?

Today we present two boats; one designed by Hot Lab - the 49.2 metre Ipanema - and the other, this one, by Luca Dini. So we push these designers, and we’ve pushed this model. Every boat is unique, they are totally customised to suit her individual owner’s wishes. We own two shipyards; Mondomarine and Cantieri di Pisa. We’ve sold two new Cantieri di Pisa boats recently, the Akhir 42, and the Cantieri di Pisa Kitalpha 22. These shipyards were ready for a new life, and ready to make a new start.

The recently launched Ipanema will be present at the Monaco Yacht Show in just a couple of weeks’ time.
