JB Marine delivers new 1,300-hp towboat to Gateway Dredging

JB Marine Inc., St. Louis, has delivered the steel-hulled 55’x24’x7’6″ towboat David J. Bangert to Gateway Dredging, Monroe, Mo.

The boat was designed by Seabrook, Texas-based The Shearer Group Inc. (TSGI) to ABS rules for building and classing steel vessels on rivers and intracoastal waterways. The new towboat is also designed to TSGI’s best interpretation of Coast Guard Subchapter M regulations that were not finalized during the boat’s design phase and most of its construction.

Main propulsion for the David J. Bangert comes from two Cummins QSK-19 diesel engines, producing 660 hp each. Ship’s service power is the responsibility of a Kubota 40-kW genset.

The new towboat, which has a draft of 6’6″, is the first of two designed by TSGI and constructed at JB Marine. The second vessel is a 68′, 1,500-hp twin-screw conventional towboat that is currently under construction. TSGI has not released the owner’s name.
