Kvichak Marine gets Oman pilot boat contract

The two vessels for the Port of Duqm will be designed by Camarc

Kvichak Marine Industries Inc. has been awarded a contract for the construction of two 19-meter all-weather pilot boats for the Port of Duqm Company SAOC, Sultanate of Oman. Designed by Camarc Design Ltd. UK, their primary function will be as pilot boats and they will also function as search and rescue and oil spill recovery vessels.

These all-aluminum vessels will be powered by twin Cummins QSK-19 marine diesel engines rated for 800 hp at 2,100 rpm each and twin ZF 2000A transmissions driving NiBrAl five-bladed fixed propellers providing an operating speed of 20 knots. The pilot boats will perform safely in all types of weather including the high winds and stormy seas experienced in southern Oman during Hareef (typhoon) season.

The Port of Duqm is undergoing a major multiphase expansion project creating the new port and dry-dock complex located on the southeastern seaboard of the Sultanate of Oman. Kvichak Marine is excited to be part of the new port growth and expansion.

Projected delivery is spring 2016.
