Autonomous, Underwater and Surface: Meet AUSS

Thales created a sensation at the 2016 Euronaval trade fair with its Autonomous Underwater & Surface System

The drone can operate beneath the waves, inspecting offshore installations, for example. Highly maneuverable, its dynamic buoyancy control allows it to deploy a mast above the surface for discreet reconnaissance. Communications options—satellite, aircraft and line-of-sight radio—will be discussed with clients. The unit can operate independently for two weeks, covering up to 50 nautical miles. Top speed of the prototype is 17 knots, with improvements expected. An operational system should be available within four years, depending on client requests.
