The perfect time for a tender refit?

As the winter season sets in, Dutch tender manufacturer Van Eden Tenders has pitched a more effective way of winterising tenders

As the Mediterranean winter season sets in, Dutch tender manufacturer Van Eden Tenders has pitched a more effective way of winterising tenders and toys by opting for a full tender refit.

Having worked as a Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA)-qualified chief engineer with a total of 28 years’ marine engineering experience, Edgar van Eden established the company in 2014 with his brother Danny van Eden, who spent eight years working on board superyachts as an engineer and hydraulics specialist. It was during this time that Edgar spotted a large gap in the market for high quality refits.

“Due to many years of working as a chief engineers, we learnt a huge amount about tenders and sending them off for refits,” says Edgar van Eden. “Unfortunately, there were many occasions where we did not receive the quality we wanted following a full tender refit.” As a result, Edgar made the decision to start up a company to the quality a chief engineer would expect.

The company specialises in complete tender refits, from re-wiring the electrics to superior paint jobs. one of the benefits of opting for a refit now is that the work will be completed in time for the beginning of the season. “The time a refit takes depends on the work which is required, but if we strip down a tender to bare hull and build up with all new materials, it takes three months. But, when there are structural changes to be made, it can take up to four months.”

Because of the companies positioning among the Dutch superyacht builders, Van Eden Tenders benefits from the flurry of business in the region. “We do cooperate with companies that work on the Dutch superyachts and deliver the best possible quality – this is what Dutch-built yachts are famous for,” says Edgar van Eden. “We believe that there is no other company in Europe that can offer the same service as us.”

Although the company is relatively new, the van Eden brothers have high hopes for the future of their company. “We offer a service to the yachting industry which is appreciated and we hope we can grow to become the first choice when it comes to tender refits.”
