Third BigRoll Module Carrier Leaves Cosco Dalian Shipyard

The Netherlands-based BigRoll Shipping has taken delivery of the third of four MC-Class module carriers, the BigRoll Baffin, from the Cosco Dalian Shipyard in China.

The first BigRoll vessel, the BigRoll Barentsz, was handed over in April 2016 and has started serving the Yamgaz consortium of Technip, JGC Corporation and Chiyoda and transporting modules to the Yamal LNG project.

During her maiden voyage, she transported Yamal LNG modules directly from the fabrication yard in China to the Yamal project site in Sabetta, Russia.

The second module carrier in the series, the BigRoll Bering, was delivered in June 2016 and is currently serving under a multi-year contract with Yamgaz.

The fourth and the final MC-Class module carrier on order, the BigRoll Beaufort, is expected to be delivered in early 2017. The BigRoll Baffin and the BigRoll Beaufourt have not been chartered by Yamgaz.

The Finnish Swedish 1A Ice Class MC Class vessels are specifically designed for the marine transportation of major modules and equipment for large energy projects both on and offshore, to some of the most remote and inaccessible areas on the planet, the company said.

In combination with the large ballast capacity and the deck strength which is built up on a uniform grid of bulkheads and web frames, the ships of this series can be used for both onshore and offshore heavy transport projects, according to BigRoll shipping.
