IGY Marinas: From Miami to the Mediterranean

Following news of One Island Park's opening in Miami Beach, we visited IGY Marinas to hear about what’s coming next for always expanding company

Miami Beach’s One Island Park, which is already open to superyachts, is the latest addition to the Island Global Yachting (IGY) Marinas portfolio, and the facts and figures that come hand in hand with One Island Park represent one of the business strategies of the marina group. One Island Park offers a unique opportunity: a purpose-built superyacht dock able to accommodate vessels of up to 222m in length (with a water depth of 12m). Now, while the largest superyacht on the water by LOA might be a mere 180m, there is, in fact, little close to that length in build. However, with 11 superyachts beyond the 100m threshold currently in build (source: SuperyachtIntelligence), One Island Park is certainly offering options. And to ensure these growing number of options are as accessible as possible for clients, IGY Marinas has appointed Gili Wojnowich as general manager.

Not only that, the marina is exempt from Captain of the Port (COTP) zone regulations, allowing what IGY describes as “a rare freedom” within South Florida waters to arrive and depart at will.

The Miami Beach marina, where BWA Yachting is located on site, is the latest in the IGY group to offer berthing options for those superyachts at the larger end of the spectrum, with five of IGY’s 15 locations now able to offer berthing options to superyachts over 91m in length.

Sitting down with Bert Fowles, the vice president of marketing and sales for IGY Marinas, he is fast to admit that the group’s success and presence is in the Americas, rather than the Mediterranean. Yet, he says, this isn’t stopping the group from taking a closer look across the pond.

Tom Mukamal, CEO of IGY Marinas, tells us that “IGY Marinas is currently pursuing marina opportunities in the Mediterranean to expand our management and hospitality services, as well as acquire new destinations for our most discerning travelers.”

And, once more, the capability of attracting larger superyachts is key. “As part of our projected growth strategy, we continuously research facilities that synergise with our existing assets, customers, clients and strategic partners in yachting. This includes deep salt water marinas that can also accommodate larger vessels,” explains Mukamal.
