At the request of an eastern European owner, Tommaso Spadolini set out to create a preliminary design for a 100m motoryacht with an 18m-plus beam. With a top speed of 20 knots and a range of 5,000nm at a cruising speed of 12 knots, Spadolini explains the challenges faced in the development of the project.

The client is an experienced owner who wanted a superyacht with a modern and innovative profile. In response to this brief we created a classic hull profile with a reverse bow and gentle hull angles. This was then combined with the modern lines of the superstructure, which was governed by the need for an extra large interior. It had to offer a fluid feeling between the interior and exterior while taking into account the masses of metal and glass needed for its construction.

One of the key objectives during the design process was to ensure plenty of light could penetrate the interior, which was achieved through the use of skylights and a high number of floor-to-ceiling windows. Various staircases, lifts and dumbwaiters provide access across the decks and ensure that crew operations can take place without disturbing guest areas. We have dedicated an entire deck to the owner. It features the master suite with bay windows offering panoramic views out to sea, a wellness centre, a large study and a private salon.

The main deck includes 10 guest suites, each offering 70sqm of space and is home to the salon and dining area. This deck also features a cinema room and provides direct access to exterior deck areas. The helm station, captain’s quarters and radio/navigation room are located forward, on a raised level from the main deck to improve visibility. Forward of the sundeck
is a spacious open area that converts into a touch-and-go helipad, while the covered aft section on this deck is an all-purpose space that can be mechanically opened to expose the interior to the natural elements.

The technical heart of the yacht is found on the lower deck, which is where the crew quarters are located. This area conforms to the new crew living regulations and includes all the facilities needed to operate the vessel successfully. This deck also includes a large spa area and access to the tender garages, which house several tenders and toys including a tender measuring over 12m. Aft of this deck is the beach area, which connects directly to the spa. The two areas combined make the stern a key social and relaxation area.
