Sovereign

Gray Design, the studio behind the SC122 and SC166, has revealed a new 100m concept, Sovereign.

Intended to capture the attention of the Middle Eastern market and specifically members of royalty, the tri-deck boasts a very low profile for a superyacht of her size and embraces styling from the automotive industry. “Taking design cues from exclusive limousines and borrowing the style of chauffeur driven carriages, gives Sovereign the proportions that are both stately and sophisticated,” explains principle designer and founder, Eduard Gray. “At the same time it has an athletic stance that hints at the rapid transitions she makes between marinas.”

Among the many exterior design features is a retractable cover at the bow, which reveals a Jacuzzi and can be raised to provide shade from the sun. Aft of the superyacht is a reinforced glass helicopter pad that sits in a resistance infinity pool and is lined with thread lighting along the edges of the pool for evening swimming. This feature extends along the length of the superyacht, past the peak of the pilothouse, creating a distinctive lighting signature. In an attempt to make the yacht as environmentally friendly as possible, ‘green’ features such as the incorporation of a wind turbine in the mast and solar panels on the roof of the top deck have been included.

The interior provides accommodation for 10 guests with an extensive owner’s suite on the upper deck that extends the length of the deck and encompasses the atrium, which is situated under a glasshouse beneath the pilothouse. Other features of the interior include a cinema, gym, library and a nightclub. On the lower deck is a beach club, which includes a skylight upon which the helipad sits. Equipped with a full wet bar and bathing platforms on either side of the yacht, which can be folded down to extend the space available to enjoy the sea. “Sculptures inspired by the yacht itself decorate this space and rich fabrics and crystal light fittings continue the theme of elegance and class,” says Gray.

Like all previous superyacht concepts by the studio, a bespoke and custom built car/limo has been created to match the vessel and embraces the essence of the design. Doors near the stern reveal a wet garage for the storage and launch of both the tenders and the automobile. Onboard cranes make it possible for the deployment of the vehicle onto land.

A top speed of 30 knots is envisaged for the vessel thanks to three MTU engines, although specific engine models have yet to be announced.
