Maximus

US-based Facheris Design was founded by Patrizio Facheris in 2014 following 13 years of service at Michael Peters Yacht Design. The first conceptual design to come from the studio is called Maximus. This 100m is an attempt to evolve yachting by creating a package that marries minimalism with extravagance. Facheris talks us through the thinking behind the concept.

This design was an attempt to revive a sketch for a 45m yacht I conceived a few years ago by marrying admired styling cues of the past with materials and innovation of the future. The intention was to create a vessel that is distinctive, yet feasible, to build and operate. Such an ambitious project demands a set of design solutions such as keeping the profile low, staying away from the typical ‘wedding cake’ superstructure and using a very narrow beam of 13.5m with a plumb bow for piercing through waves. Everything about this concept points to efficiency.

Maximus strives to bring owners back to the essence of yachting and is part of a new generation of lightweight composite superyachts. Simplicity and functionality define this project, diverging from the trend for countless moving parts commonly found on today’s luxury yachts.

The low profile allows for an elongated waterline, which maintains the basic, clean feel of the original 45m design. However, Maximus goes further by establishing an open deck for guests to walk from the stern to the bow outside while enjoying unobstructed views out to sea.

Environmentally conscious, Maximus includes a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion system, which minimises sound when operating at lower speeds. We have also integrated a solar panel into the superstructure and an artificial deck sole to enhance the vessel’s green credentials and to ease hotel loads.

Accommodation for up to 10 guests is provided across five private apartments that are furnished with all the amenities you would expect to find at home. These suites range from 37.1sqm to 74.3sqm and offer an open loft-style living space which each include its own galley, salon and gym. Guests have access to the main deck where they can enjoy an infinity pool and outdoor theatre aft.

The salon and lounge on the main deck provide guests with a comfortable area where they can enjoy a five-star service and offer ample space for business or pleasure. Scenic views are of the utmost importance with this design. To achieve this we have excluded walls that would hinder views out to sea when in the main salon, guest suites, or when on deck by the pool or outdoor theatre.

We have embedded a state-of-the-art invisible audio system by Revolution Acoustics into the glass within the living quarters and the main deck areas. The glass can also be controlled for opacity to provide higher levels of privacy when desired.

When in port or at anchor, guests can enjoy a host of toys and two custom tenders that complement the exterior aesthetics of Maximus. These are housed in a tender garage amidships, while a helicopter pad forward makes it easy for guests to come and go as they please.
