The Diver

The Diver 300 is the latest expedition concept to come from Frank Neubelt Yacht Designs in collaboration with NC2 German Yacht Project Cooperation. The 100m project came into being after an experienced owner approached the team with the desire to cruise across the seven seas. Principal designer Frank Neubelt tells us more about the design brief.

A repeat client commissioned us to develop a world cruiser approximately 100m that would be comfortable and suitable for long- range travelling in all weather conditions, and could be delivered in three years. The yacht had to be stable and provide a functional yet homely layout, while wrapped in an exterior design that showed plenty of character. Keeping in mind the likely destinations that this client would cruise to, I started designing a comfortable explorer vessel that could be sailed in bad weather and be navigated through difficult passages.

One of the key elements for a vessel of this type is that it should be easy to maintain, which is demonstrated by the practical exterior and logical interior. This yacht will also be able to carry enough food provisions, fuel and fluid to operate for extended periods out at sea, up to a maximum distance of 10,700nm at a speed of 14 knots against an ocean current of five to six knots.

The interior includes a deck dedicated to the owner and is home to the master en suite, which features a lookout station in front of the wheelhouse. This level also includes a private study, gym and lounge, while a terrace is located on the aft upper deck. The main deck is home to the main salon aft and four spacious guest suites forward, with integrated balconies included on two of the cabins.

The main deck is a functional area where toys such as 12m tenders, jeeps, hovercraft and submarines are housed amidships in containers and are kept out of sight under the upper deck. A short bridge connects the upper deck to a helicopter platform, making it easy to explore remote regions such as the Antarctic or Arctic. However, should a helipad not be desired, this area can be converted into entertainment space or additional storage for toys.

With the capacity to accommodate a crew of 30 and being Ice Class E1 approved, Diver 300 is a serious explorer vessel with a timeless and masculine exterior style. The style has been developed in such a way that keeps construction costs low but can incorporate a number of environmentally friendly aspects. At the heart of the vessel, we propose the use of Rolls-Royce diesel-electric engines connected to a twin propulsion system, achieving a top speed of 18 knots.
