Ram Wing 100 Design

A hundred metres at 100 knots sounds like a feat that would be hard to achieve. However, this revolutionary Ram-wing 100m, designed by Renato Sonny Levi of Levi Design and his son, is one of the most radical boat designs claiming to be able to fulfill this brief.

Apparently the design of this vessel, with highly original hull geometry, would not be out of place if it were in outer space. The design is intended for a person with a large entourage, who spares no money and likes to be surrounded by luxuries. The Ram-wing boasts an accommodation area of around 3000 square metres, meaning that there's room for all the latest gadgets and gizmos that include a mini-sub, helipads and tenders.

The geometry used behind Ram-wing is 'The Reverse Tricycle' or Y-Tunnel Craft' style, which alleviates discomfort from pounding and slamming, and produces aerodynamic lift, allowing for her extraordinary speeds. With a third planing mono-hull - that is located in the tunnel of the conventional twin hull catamaran - at high speeds or in rough weather, when the vessel 'takes off' from the water, the re-entry is as smooth as it would be on a mono-hull. She is driven by twin Levi surface - piercing propellers that have a diameter of 3.5m and weigh 5 tonnes each, making them the largest surface area props of this type yet made. They will be coupled to a combination of gas turbines and diesel engines, powering the Ram-wing to that magic speed - 100 knots.
