TC 90-metre

UK-based Tony Castro Naval Architects & Yacht Design has revealed a new 90m concept based upon a design style that the studio has embraced for a number of years.

The TC 90 originates from the evolution of two previous concepts, a 50m for ISA Produzione and a 77m for Lurssen. “This animal has been around for a while but never built and so we decided to finish her, as a 90-metre version,” explains Castro.

Still at the early stages of development, the concept offers a number of features such as folding bulwarks and a concealed helipad, as part of the aft swimming pool, where the floor can be raised to provide a landing area. However, the most prominent feature is a waterfall towards the aft of the superyacht, allowing water to cascade from the Jacuzzi on the sky deck, down to the swimming pool on the main deck. To ensure a steady and controlled flow of water is achieved, a series of illuminated channels within the teak decking have been included along with glass structures that encase the water.

Although the interior has yet to be announced, the fully PYC (Passenger Yacht Code) compliant vessel will provide accommodation for 22 guests across two VVIP, four VIP and four double guest suites. On the lower deck is a glass fronted beach club, which is linked to the aft deck.

With the option of either an all aluminium structure, to maximise the range of the yacht, or the more common steel and aluminium combination, the envisaged top speed for the vessel is 22 knots. “This is achievable thanks to having such a long waterline, and this combined with an extended bow, you gain at least a knot,” says Castro. “Most people with a displacement yacht want range rather than speed though. The bigger range tends to be more popular than the weight of the yacht, as there is little appetite for speed generally.”
