US-based Luiz de Basto Design has revealed a new 90m concept for Dutch shipyard Oceanco, which will form part of its 2011 Monaco Yacht Show portfolio. Inspired by nature, one of the design features highlighted is the creation of wing stations that resemble the shape of a hammerhead shark when seen from above.

“The new concept was specifically designed to maximize opportunities for outdoor living and direct contact with the marine environment,” explains de Basto. “The outdoor areas are as enjoyable as the interior ones and the extensive sun deck with a shaded lounge area for alfresco dining on the main deck is one of the most noteworthy features.”

Incorporating a distinct Oceanco look, the new concept explores the latest in glass technology using reflective glass in the finish of the aluminium superstructure, offering full height panoramic views. The interior layout has been carefully considered to ensure that the interaction between crew operations and guests is minimised by separating the aft decks from the walk around used by crew. This ensures privacy on the top deck, which is dedicated to the owner and includes a Jacuzzi on a private verandah. The superyacht will be able to accommodate guests across four guest staterooms on the main deck and a VIP suite on the bridge deck.

“One point that had top priority in developing this masterpiece has been the flexibility of the spaces by designing two boarding areas,” explains de Basto. “You can board from the swim platform and from two folding doors beside the garage on the lower deck, which can accommodate two 10-metre tenders and between six to eight wave runners."

Other features of the design include a swimming pool aft of the main deck that can be converted into a helipad when needed. Continuing the use of glass, the crystalline material will be used in the construction of the elevator, main stairways, in the base of the wing stations and also in the pilothouse in the inclusion of a sunroof. All of this helps to create a feeling of openness and allows as much natural light into the vessel as possible.

The steel hull and aluminium and glass superstructure will adhere to the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC) and will be powered by two marine diesel engines producing 3600 kW, reaching a maximum speed of 19.5 knots and achieving 5,000 nm when at a cruising speed of 14 knots.
