Arctic Sun Explorer

Dennis Ingemansson is a Swedish designer with a degree in industrial design from Linnaeus University in Sweden and a masters degree in automotive design from the Domus Academy in Milan, Italy. His passion for the superyacht industry is evident in his ever-growing portfolio of which the latest addition is the 90m Arctic Sun Explorer. Here Ingemansson describes some of the features of the concept.

The Arctic Sun Explorer concept was a collaboration with UK-based shipyard Pendennis and Rolls-Royce naval engineering. The explorer vessel has been designed with the intention of being used as a multipurpose superyacht or as a support vessel. Among the key aims for the design was that the vessel be a viable platform for smooth seakeeping, while also being efficient and a low-emission certified yacht.

The exterior design benefits from clean surfaces with a touch of deconstructivism, often seen in modern architecture. The most obvious feature of the profile is the break in the superstructure amidships, which creates a sheltered area for the safe stowage of sailing vessels. This space can also be used for the storage of two 12m containers when on an expedition.

Another feature of the design is the inclusion of a drive-in docking system for limousine tenders, which can also be used for the launch and retrieval of a submarine. For easy access to and from the vessel, an EC155-certificed helicopter platform and garage are included, with an additional touch-to-go platform located towards the bow.

Among its green credentials is the inclusion of a 76.5sqm solar cell area on the roof, to support hotel loads and reduce dependency of generators.
