E-Motion

One of the many highlights at the 2013 Monaco Yacht Show was the unveiling of Oceanco’s 90m motoryacht concept, E-Motion. The sleek exterior with traditional round portholes and red detailing comes from the drawing board of in-house designer Patrick Casanova and his team, with an interior by Sinot. Here Casanova and designer Sander Sinot discuss the new design and reveal the key interior features.

E-Motion, also known by its yard designation DP046, was created as a chic yet sporty superyacht. Her energetic profile, with a straight edge bow and low superstructure, has been created with practicality of operation, layout and style in mind. With this design, we wanted to create something that would grab people’s attention while remaining true to traditional seamanship. As part of the development of the design we looked at how to maximise views out while ensuring privacy and explored environmentally friendly solutions. An example of this can be seen in the integrated solar panels on the aft top and upper deck roofs.

The concept provides a relaxed lounge area on the owner’s exterior deck, which overlooks a 6.5m-long infinity pool on the main deck. Tinted glass bulwark on the upper deck offers protection from the wind and a high level of privacy without obscuring views. The 120sqm owner’s suite located aft of this deck offers panoramic views and a private terrace with a whirlpool, sunbeds and a seating area. The master bedroom includes en suite His and Her bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes.

The yacht interior combines the beauty, patterns and structures found in nature with the finest quality materials that have been carefully selected to achieve a balanced colour scheme. The style is distinguished in its originality through the use of rich layered themes and abstract structures such as the branches and grass patterns in the spa or the fractal-based patterns that are used as inlays on the tables. Dividing screens on the main deck have a rhythmic spacing based on the Fibonacci sequence, which is related to the golden ratio.

Six double guest cabins on the upper deck—four of which can convert into two large VIP suites—are kept separate from the master suite by the upper lobby. Plenty of natural light is able to flood the cabins thanks to dual skylights set into the overhead. A comfortable exterior seating area is available on the forward part of this deck should guests want to enjoy privacy and panoramic views.

The main deck is home to a vast 250sqm salon aft and a spacious open cinema, which can be enclosed by sliding doors. Next to the cinema is the main entrance/lobby followed by an impressive dining room with seating for 14 and ample china storage to accommodate numerous place settings. The folding bulwarks on each side of the dining room can open up for enhanced viewing out.

An impressive 150sqm wellness beach club on the lower deck offers guests a comprehensive club atmosphere that includes a sauna, gym, yoga space, pool, massage room, health bar, beauty salon with dressing area, lounge, watersports room with diving equipment and drying cabinet— all with direct access to the sea.

A fully certified helipad is also included and is located on the foredeck. It is capable of accommodating an EC135, which has the capacity for a pilot with six to seven passengers or two pilots with five to six passengers.
