The latest concept from Sylvain Viau is an 89m vessel named 'Private' which differs from vessels by the same designer due to the simple geometric shapes of her hull, superstructure and windows.

“The main feature simple geometry for all the structure of the yacht to cut down building costs, and to make a large yacht with plenty of space”, says Sylvain Viau about his latest design. “The luxury from my point of view is not the accumulation of expensive stuff in a room, but space, light and quiet atmosphere. Steel and rockwool are not the most expensive part of global shipbuilding compared to other sophisticated gadgets and equipments.”

By no means does this concept look like a traditional yacht. “The casual appearance is closer to a ferryboat than a megayacht, so it should not attract too much attention in a harbour compared to something much more shiny and visible”, comments Viau. The layout is organised from top to bottom, starting from a wide helipad and the wheelhouse dominating the whole ship. The top deck is dedicated to the owner with a large accommodation area opening onto a sheltered sun deck and Jacuzzi. “The second guideline was privacy onboard for VIP people you can land easily onboard by helicopter, then you can enjoy exclusively the complete top deck without prying paparazzi or inquisitive gazers.”

The main deck houses the lounges and VIP cabins, with the lower aft deck comprising of a large lazarette fitted with wide doors opening in three different directions. “The main entrance of the ship is the aft lazarette (the design is not complete yet) with ceremonial stairs to reach the main deck salon. Keeping the visitors on the lower and main decks will help to preserve intimacy for the top deck suite”, says Viau. By using the latest technology for air-conditioning, insulation and solar power for hot water production, power consumption is down to a minimum, as well as a combination of diesel electric generators used for both propulsion plant and/or electric domestic needs.
