Icom commercial DSC marine transceiver

Japanese marine electronics company Icom has launched a new VHF/DSC marine transceiver to its commercial maritime line up.

The new GM600 is designed for Class A DSC operation and provides a complete GMDSS VHF communication system as required for Commercial SOLAS regulated vessels engaging in international voyages.

The GM600 is ideal for any commercial vessel that demands reliable, easy to use and high performance communications, crucial to the daily running of a commercial operation. It would be ideally suited to cruise liners, tankers, offshore tugs, salvage vessels and deep sea fishing vessels. The GM600 has an independent DSC receiver, which constantly monitors Channel 70 whilst using another VHF channel. The DSC allows crew to call other ships or coast stations directly as well as all ships in their geographical area. The GM600 meets the Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU ‘wheel mark’ approval for European merchant ships.

The GM600 has been designed to fit comfortably on any commercial bridge and blend in with other instrumentation whilst its power supply discretely mounts out of the way and out of sight. A large 4.3 inch colour TFT LCD provides a user-friendly display and quick recognition of screen information. Day and night modes can be selected according to the lighting conditions.

The GM600 features a combination of directional keypad and soft keys providing simple operation. The main 12 functions are assigned to soft keys (at the bottom of the display) and toggled with the left and right keys. The clearly labelled keypad provides straightforward entry.

The GM600 is now available from authorised Icom Commerical Marine Dealers. Together with the GM800 GMDSS MF/HF radio, it can provide a complete MF/HF/VHF GMDSS communications station. The IC-GM1600E survival craft radio completes Icom’s new GMDSS line up.
