Revised Bembridge Harbour regeneration plans explained

Bembridge Harbour has unveiled an updated version of its regeneration plans, which will see more than £1.75million invested into the area

An updated plan for the regeneration of Bembridge Harbour has been unveiled at a meeting in the Isle of Wight village.

Harbour officials explained that the plans have been revised to reduce the number of houses that would be built at the former harbour office to 14.

Further car parking, shower and toilet facilities will be provided as part of the regeneration project, which will see more than £1.75million invested in the harbour.

The harbour’s owners also claim that the provision of six new commercial units will create up to 30 new jobs in the village.

The changes to the project come after Bembridge Harbour Trust opposed the original plans, which were announced last summer.

It is estimated that visiting boaters bring as much as £8million of revenue to the Isle of Wight each year, and Bembridge Harbour has attracted a 20% rise in visitors over the past year.

Recent improvements at Bembridge include a new WiFi system and new engines for both of the local water taxis.
