Diesel-electric HADAG ferry delivered

A “flat iron” design harbour ferry with a diesel electric drive has been taken into operation by Hamburg-based transport company HADAG.

Elbphilharmonie, built by Hamburg-located Pella Sietas, features a diesel-electric drive with two propellers and a flat iron optimized hull form.

The vessel is almost 30m long, 8.4m wide and can accommodate 400 passengers, more than previous HADAG type 2020 vessels.

Delivered after 10 months of planning, design and construction, the vessel’s maiden journey was overseen by Gabriele Müller-Remer, CEO of HADAG, Natallia Dean, director of Pella Sietas and Frank Horch, Hamburg Senator for Economy, Transport and Innovation.

HADAG operates 25 vessels and is responsible for all ferry traffic in Hamburg’s harbour in co-operation with the HVV Transport Alliance. It works across 20 piers and serves more than 8m passengers a year.
