Behind the design of Princess’ new X95 superyacht with Olesinski

When Princess first unveiled a glimpse of their new X95 motor yacht project that is to be revealed at next month’s Cannes Yachting Festival, it was clear that the company is heading in a new direction with regards to styling.

To find out more about this unique project and the reasons behind this radical new offering by one of Britain’s most successful yacht builders, we spoke with Olesinski, the design office behind Princess’ lines of motor yachts dating back to the early 1970s.Unknown to many, Olesinski has designed the exterior, hull and structural configuration on every Princess motor yacht since the 70s. It is this long-standing exclusive partnership that makes this new X95 project even more game-changing, not only for the market but also for Princess itself.

For the X95, Princess and Olesinski teamed up with the famous Italian brand, Pininfarina for the first time who brought to the table a new perspective unseen in any Princess model to date. “With yacht owners also often passionate about performance cars it made sense to team up with Pininfarina to create the winning formula. Not only are they a recognisable brand from their previous association with the iconic Ferrari’ brand but they were also able to bring levels of detailing that clients had not yet seen on production yachts,” says Olesinski Managing Director, Justin Olesinski.

The collaboration started in 2016 with a blank canvas and the goal to create the perfect boat for Princess’ growing family of adventurous clients. “We wanted something more elegant than an explorer but with accommodation and the range to match,” continues Olesinski. “The X95 has taken longer than any previous project under 100ft with more people being involved than ever before. And now with more ideas generated, more options available and more attention to detail we believe she will force the rest of the market to react.”

The result is a sleek and stylish 29-metre motor yacht with a so-called ‘Super Flybridge’ that, according to Princess, will “appeal to customers who wish to spend more time aboard to explore cruising grounds further afield.” This ‘Super Flybridge’ and the main deck area below together span nearly the entire length of the yacht to offer uninterrupted areas of luxury living spaces.

The model is part of Princess’ new X Class that is said to diversify its lineup of motor yachts, of which additional models could be expected in the future.
