Austal Unveils Molslinjen’s New High-Speed Ferry

Australian shipbuilding company Austal has rolled out Molslinjen’s next-generation catamaran ferry from its Henderson yard.

After the hull and superstructure left the construction halls, the superstructure was lifted and joined to the hull.

The 109-meter-long Express 4 is now undergoing final fit out and will commence sea trials shortly, according to Austal.

The Auto Express high-speed vehicle/passenger catamaran commenced construction in April 2017. It has been designed and built at Austal’s Henderson shipyard in Western Australia.

Featuring a design with optimized hull form to minimize fuel consumption and Austal’s Ride Control System for superior sea-keeping and comfort, the vessel supports over 1,000 passengers, 425 cars, and will operate at speeds up to 40 knots.

Austal has also commenced construction of an Auto Express 109 for Fjord Line of Norway, and the first of two 117-meter trimarans for Canary Islands-based Fred.Olsen S.A.
