The new fast-planing Otam 85 GTS was delivered today, with all of the sporty style and performance promised by the yard – as shown by these exclusive photographs.
The 26 metre, fully custom Cara Montana was launched in May and exceeded her target top speed in her first sea trials.
She is the first 85 GTS from the Italian yard. Engineering and design are by Otam CEO Gianfranco Zanoni, who worked working in collaboration with Rapallo-based Umberto Tagliavini from Marine Design & Services. Her sporty looks are matched by her performance – Cara Montana has a twin 2,600hp MTU 16V M 94 and Arneson transmission set-up for a top speed of 45 knots plus and cruising speed of 38.
The owner was drawn to the futuristic, supercar-inspired profile of the Otam 85 GTS and requested the Italian shipyard create a classic, open version designed to suit his personal style.
A 1:1 wooden mock-up of the semi-open hardtop was built first to ensure that the aesthetics of the structure and windscreen exactly met the owner’s vision. Constructed from advanced composite materials, it integrates the engines’ air inlets, protects the areas served by alfresco cooking grills and conceals the mechanism for opening the top.
The interior layout and design are by Paris-based architect Joseph Dirand Architecture. Accommodation is in two large master suites in the bow and centre of the yacht, plus a galley and dining saloon. The crew quarters in the bow are accessed independently from the main accommodation, ensuring privacy.
There is ample al fresco lounging space fore and aft. An open transom leads down to a swim platform. A semi-open fly deck provides seating and dining facilities.
“The genesis of the 85 GTS goes back to the 2017 edition of the Cannes Yachting Festival,” said Matteo Belardinelli, sales and communications manager for Otam. “We were presenting the Otam 80, which raised a lot of interest because of its performance and its second, full-beam master suite in the centre of the yacht. A number of clients expressed their interest in a ‘different and open or semi-open’ version of that yacht, which was therefore the starting point for our R&D.”
Otam builds yachts of 13 metres to 30 metres in its Fast & Iconic and Custom ranges.
Cara Montana will make her debut at Cannes Yachting Festival in September.
