Veecraft building two oilfield security vessels for Nigeria

South African shipyard Veecraft Marine is building two Incat Crowther designed, aluminum hulled commercial oilfield security vessels for UTM Dredging Ltd. a privately held Nigerian company.

According to Incat Crowther there are also future orders pending for what it describes as "a customized vessel design suited to meet the needs of an expanding and demanding oilfield security industry."

The 35 m monohull vessels will each have three Caterpillar C32 ACERT engines, each producing 1,450hp at 2,300 rpm to give the propeller driven vessels a maximum speed of 29 knots. Electrical power is supplied by two Caterpillar C4.4 generators and maneuverability is enhanced by a Hydro Armor Type 800 bow thruster.

Incat Veecraft 350The wheelhouse is constructed of Armox 500T steel with bullet proof windows to provide ballistic protection to NIJ Level III and provides a helm station with two helm seats, a chart table, a communications desk, and seating for 12 passengers or security personnel.

Accommodations are provided for eight crew and 14 security personnel in single and double berth cabins.

The main deck features three double berth staterooms, two single berth staterooms, two toilet and shower spaces, a medical room, a large galley, a spacious lounge, and a separate mess area. Below deck accommodations include seven double berth cabins, two toilet and shower spaces, a laundry room, a large cooler and storage locker.

External decks provide plenty of space for transportation of supplies and positions for weapons installations.

The aft portion of the hull is fitted with a well, fixed with a hydraulically operated, articulating transom door, for transportation and easy deployment of an 8 m fast rescue craft.
