ASMEX awards evening

On May 19 at the Industry Gala Dinner, the 2015 Club Marine Australian Marine Export and Superyacht Industry Awards - organised by the Australian International Marine Export Group and Superyacht Australia - were announced at the InterContinental Resort, Sanctuary Cove, Queensland.

The evening saw plenty of entertainment: a three-course meal, drinks courtesy of prestigious Australian winery Negociants Wines, networking and even an award presented by the Superyacht Group's own chairman Martin H Redmayne.

The Club Marine awards are a celebration of the Australian marine export and superyacht sectors’ businesses and individuals – giving praise where praise is due. Key presenters from the superyacht industry included Chair of the 2015 awards judging panel, Sam Sorgiovanni of Sorgiovanni Designs, Johan Hasser of Santuary Cove International Boat Show and Redmayne.

The ‘Most Innovative Marine Exported Product Award’ went to Barz Optics for its Cabo Floating Sunglasses. With a density less than fresh and salt water, Cabo sunglasses float in the choppiest conditions even when already submerged, making them ideal for any marine professional or enthusiast. Aqualuma LED, the marine lighting specialists, claimed the ‘Best Marine Industry Export Performance Award’ in the medium category for its growth since conception and its continuous innovation and improvement.

Echo Yachts took the ‘Superyacht Industry Business of the Year – Manufacturer Award’. In what has been a turbulent period for the Australian superyacht industry, Echo Yachts, spearheaded by Mark Stothard has come up trumps with its 10-year restoration of White Rabbit and more recently work commenced on an 84m trimaran project that is set to become the largest superyacht ever to be built in Australia.
