A sneak peek of SYD Week...

Martin Redmayne the Chairman of The Superyacht Group and Claire German, managing director of Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour welcomed the delegates of SYD Week.

Chairman of The Superyacht Group, Martin Redmayne, joined by Claire German, managing director of Design Centre, Chelsea Harbour, welcomed design showrooms, guests, speakers and partners of SuperyachtDESIGN Week to an intimate preview to discuss the exciting developments underway for this exclusive design event. Opening its doors for three days on 24th June, this second installment is proving to be stronger than ever with a number of high profile keynote speakers confirmed, breakout sessions organised and showroom partnerships to ensure every inch of the Design Centre is covered during your time on site.Speaking to the showrooms, Redmayne stressed the importance of a conjoined effort to offer the biggest punch over three days at the Harbour. "Our goal is to have a very focused group of 200 designers and owners' reps, 200 shipyards and consultants and 100 trade and subcontractors come through the doors over the three days" Redmayne shared. Whilst the numbers may be smaller than some of the other events held at the Design Centre, this has been purposely done to ensure a core and focused group that is able to network and meet all the right people in a relaxed setting.

With the current fleet on the water today comprising 5000 yachts over 100 feet, and the forecast for another 1800 in the next 10 years, Redmayne estimates that "we'll be at 8000-9000 yachts over 100 feet, but they are getting bigger and bigger. We're in this situation where we have this whole cycle of growth happening in the next few years, where we aren't simply getting more on the water, but larger sizes are placing an increased demand on the industry, certainly in terms of interior design styling." Given the wide reach that the Design Centre Chelsea Harbour offers, it is the belief of Redmayne and German that the Design Centre becomes a regular meeting point for owners traveling in and out of London. "We're trying to drive an audience that adopts this place as one of their hubs to shop and be inspired during their time in London."

These three days have evolved to become so much more than an event based around sitting hours on end in a conference room. Showrooms within the Design Centre have been given a myriad of opportunities to get involved, as both partners and via Access All Areas. Purple Grape were on hand at the preview with a special taster showcase, for anyone looking to host a lunch hotspot using one of their specially designed, tasty menus. The mood this year is one of innovation and fun - walk around, get your hands dirty, meet new faces and make plans to return to SuperyachtDESIGN Week.
