CDW 2014 programme

CDW’s newly appointed show director William Knight, has announced that this year will see an increased number of showrooms and exhibitors

UK, London. Clerkenwell Design Week (CDW) has revealed its programme for 2014, which will see it return with a new expanded structure for its fifth year from 20 to 22 May. Last year we revealed that CDW would feature a new structure for 2014 and at a press launch earlier this month, Knight unveiled further details about what we can expect from the four areas and this year’s event.

CDW Presents

CDW has announced installations from Studio Weave, Okay Studio and russ + henshaw for this year’s CDW Presents. Studio Weave’s creation sounds particularly interesting, with them building a pavilion made from fibre-cement panels providing a stress-skin in collaboration with structural engineer Wedd Yates and fabricator Nicholas Alexander. The pavilion will host group of contemporary craftsmen and smiths over the three days, hosting a variety of workshops and demonstrations.

Design Factory

Every year, the hub of CDW is the Farmiloe Building and this year it will play host to the events high-profile brands the ‘Design Factory’. Foscarini lighting, Johnson Tiles, deadgood, BoConcept, MaterialLab and Pinch are just some of the exhibitors that will make Farmiloe their home.Celebrating high-end design and exquisite craftsmanship in the luxury sector, Detail at the Order of St John will bring together the best and most prestigious names in top-end interior design. The award-winning Campana Brothers are exclusively collaborating this year with .IT_All About Design and Edra to put on an exhibition of their work that will explore how design and production processes render "a piece of art" – a successful, commercial product. The brother will be unveiling the showcase in person on 20 May 2014. Other notable luxury exhibitors will be C&C Milano, Ginger & Jagger and Ochre.

Arguably CDW’s most atmospheric venue, the old Victorian prison The House of Detention, will showcase talented up-and-coming designers. This year for example, Estonian-born Johanna Tammsalu has taken lighting to another level with her handspun, ceramic pendant lights. Other exhibitors set to be there are Robert Scott, the sculptural furniture maker, Kit Miles, textile designer, and architectural designer Aleksandrina Rizova.Additions

Taking place in the Crypt at St James Church, it will be the main hub for a curated collection of accessories and finishing touches. Brands like Toghal, Urbanara, Chisel and Mouse and Hend Krichen will exhibit their artisanal skills and craftsmanship here during the three days.

Conversations at Clerkenwell

A range of high-profile talks will debate innovation, design and forward-thinking in London’s architecture and design industry. The programme will include talks and insights from leading architects and designers – from Ron Arad and Arik Levy, to The Campana Brothers, Sir Peter Cook and Farrells architecture practice.

“I’m delighted to come on board and join the establish team at this exciting time,” Knight commented at the press launch the other day. “Clerkenwell Design Week is still growing, but has come a long way since its launch in 2010. The festival is now a must-attend event in the international design calendar, attracting thousands of architects, designers, specifiers and buyers from around the world every May.” SuperyachtDesign will bring you highlights from the event in May
