SEAWORK 2015: THE NEW GOBBLER OPERATES INSHORE, OFFSHORE – EVERYWHERE!

An Oil Spill Recovery Vessel designed for any condition

A unique vessel, developed to recover the marine environment after oil pollution incidents, is currently being presented at Seawork International in Southampton, UK. Winner of Seawork’s prestigious Spirit of Innovation Award 2015, the Gobbler Offshore 290 is Gobbler Boat‘s brand new and patented Oil Spill Recovery Vessel (OSRV).

Due to its functional design, this small, versatile workboat can operate in all surroundings. Twin hulls, in combination with a draft of only half a meter, allow for operation in shallow waters such as rivers, beach areas or close to the shoreline. Beyond that, the 29-foot-long fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) hull has an offshore certification by Lloyd’s Register. However, for practical reasons like fuel capacity, the operating range should be within 60 nautical miles from shore or from a mothership.

The Gobbler’s dimensions enable global transportation to far-off areas by road trailer or cargo aircraft. To reach even the remotest waterways, restricted for example by height (bridges, tree trunks, etc.), the wheelhouse can be detached.

Despite its small size, the RSOV can work independently on a 24/7 basis. Gobbler Boats Ltd indicates that the oil collection rate of the skimmer, located between the twin hulls in front of the vessel, is up to 16 tons per hour. The boat speed varies between one to three knots during skimming operations and 20 knots when quickly approaching an oil spill site. Several add-ons are disposable depending on the operating area and legal regulations.
