Gocycle began creating buzz in 2009 with the promise of an alternative to cheap folding bikes. Designed by former McLaren Cars engineer Richard Thorpe, the Gocycle’s modern design perfectly matches the caliber of boats for which it is intended. And at only 16 kilograms, it is also the lightest portable electric bicycle in its class.

The Gocycle has none of the fiddly chains, cables or gears of standard bikes. Assembly is exceptionally easy with no necessity for tools save for a small Allen key that stores neatly under the seat. Thanks to their patented PitstopWheels, which are interchangeable, the task is further simplified. It also means that the company has quite literally reinvented the wheel.

Further drawing upon experience in the automotive industry, Thorpe designed Gocycle in a single size that adapts to anyone. The frame’s shape and the Vgonomic seat post offer an adjustable driving position for ultimate ergonomy. And since the frame is low to the ground, it is also easy to maneuver and lift.

As for power, a micro-electric motor powers the front wheel, while the pedals drive the rear through the patented Cleandrive enclosing a Shimano Nexus 3-speed gearbox. No fumes, no oil, no dirt and a perfectly balanced “two wheel drive”. It has 64 kilometers of autonomy for exploring in port, and the in-frame lithium batteries take less than six hours to recharge. When no longer needed, the design folds into a compact package that is easily stored onboard.
