KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR YACHT: MYBOATSTATUS

New monitoring system allows wireless communication between boat and owner

Connecting on-board communication devices with each other is the topic with which modern yachtsmen are confronted. The online wireless vessel monitoring system MyBoatStatus goes one step further: It connects the owner to his boat – wherever he might be.

The application seems rather easy. Wireless sensors are installed on the boat to monitor sensitive systems such as battery level, water, humidity and motion detection, temperature or shore power status. Those sensors send the collected information to the receiver that loads the data onto a virtual cloud. The cloud can be accessed from any internet-enabled device, whether it be the home office computer or mobile device such as a netbook, tablet or smartphone. An internet connection provided by the marina is not mandatory given the fact that MyBoatStatus utilizes cellular technology to transfer the data into the virtual space.

MyBoatStatus’ developer Scribble Software, a provider of management software solutions for the recreational industry, addresses not only boat owners but also yacht brokers and marinas with its new system. It received a Top Product Award by BoatingIndustry Magazine in 2014 which is given to innovative products that advance the boating industry. The benefit for users is obvious: The software alerts the person responsible for the boat in real time if anything unexpected and unwanted happens on-board. Time ashore has never been more relaxing.
