ARCONA BRINGS SOLAR ENERGY ONBOARD THE 380Z

A zero-emission family sailboat from the Swedish shipyard

The Arcona 380 (pictured above) from Arcona Yachts first hit the waves in summer 2014. With her responsive twin helm, intelligent layout and elegant hull, she is ideal for pleasurable family sailing. However, for 2015, the Swedish shipyard is upping the ante.

The 38-foot Arcona 380Z is set to be a 100% energy autonomous sailing yacht. It will also be the first boat manufactured in series to integrate a solar mainsail: the SolarClothSystem by UK Sailmakers. The system prints ultra-flexible photovoltaic cells directly onto the sail’s cloth, providing a capacity of 1kW. The sail will then connect with Oceanvolt’s innovative electric motor system.

Arcona will be presenting the concept at the upcoming Helsinki Boat Show from February 6th to 15th, and the first model will be officially lanced in April 2015.
