THE DRAGONFLY 80 FROM PI YACHT & MCPHERSON YACHT DESIGN

An 80-meter trimaran with fold away hulls

Even though we keep hearing about the dire state of the marine and nautical market, we keep on seeing bigger and crazier boats. A quick look on the Dragonfly 80‘s shape will suffice to place it in that last category. If nature is always a great inspiration for designers, this boat is definitely something else…

With 80 meters of aluminum, 5 decks, 3 masts and folding hulls, this massive trimaran will be the flagship of a brand new range from Pi Yacht. The Dragonship 80 will be the biggest model of a series that will consist of a 50-meter, 35-meter and 25-meter yacht. Aside from its unusual design, the Dragonship will also be a wonder of technology. A fully automated system will drive the powered rotating masts and control the sail surface, assuring the most efficient wind angle. The client can also choose between a Sports or Cruising rig. But that’s not all: the range will also be completely electric, using new fast-recharge batteries that load from solar cells integrated into the fabric of the Autosail. Last but not least, the fold away hulls will allow the 80-meter yacht to dock in marinas that would previously not have been accessible.

Regarding the accommodations, rest assured that there’s nothing to worry about: the six cabins can accommodate 12 guests. The yacht can handle a crew of 17, and its facilities include a saloon, bar, dinning room, spa and gym. Definitely something to look forward to.
