AFFORDABLE SAILING: THE BAVARIA EASY 9.7

A new low-cost option from Bavaria was presented at BOOT

Bavaria presented a new low-cost yacht concept at BOOT Düsseldorf, the Bavaria Easy 9.7. Intended for a new generation of prospective buyers, the boat makes its appearance at a time when questions are being raised regarding a “generation gap” in sailing.

With the majority of new sailing yachts costing well above 75,000 euros (excluding maintenance, taxes, insurance, etc.), the average buyer is frequently older. The youngest sailors get their thrills in sailing races, but beyond the age of competition, potential boat owners frequently do not have the purchasing power to buy a new boat. In short, an entire demographic is left with very few affordable options.

At 9.7 meters, the Bavaria Easy 9.7 offers a no frills alternative. Bavaria is not the first to have pioneered the idea. Hanse used recycled hulls to create a line of affordable sailboats, the Varianta series.

As for Bavaria, the hull mold is the same as the Bavaria 33, the company’s entry-level cruiser. Made for easy handling with a crew of one or two, the Easy 9.7 will have an open stern, spacious cockpit and clean deck layout.

The boat’s base price is 49,950 euros (excluding tax). An Easy Living package is available for an additional 6,590 euros. Easy Living includes a cockpit table, transom shower, fridge, holding tank, 240 v shore power connection and water heater.
