AUTO-INSPIRED BOATS

Auto + marine vehicle pairings are more and more prevalent, but is it a good thing?

More and more marine brands are teaming up with luxury car makers to create marine vehicles that take their lines from fast cars. While this is absolutely nothing new, the recent Miami Boat Show was inundated with car and speed boat pairings. Most notably present was the new Cigarette Racing and Mercedes-Benz collaboration: the Cigarette 50′ Vision GT, inspired by the AMG Vision GT.

After designing the AMG Vision Gran Turismo Concept car for the video game Gran Turismo® 6, Mercedes-Benz, the company intends to create a real life version of the vehicle. Cigarette Racing took the concept and morphed it into the ultimate speed boat. Extremely lightweight and only 2.4 meters wide, the 50′ Vision GT is powered by a pair of 1650 hp Mercury Racing engines and is estimated to have a top speed of 225 km/h!

A second pairing to make its appearance was the Lamborghini Aventador-inspired racing catamaran alongside its namesake, the Lamborghini Aventador LP720 Anniversary Roadster. Imagined by an Aventador afficionado for the 50th anniversary edition, the boat packs nearly 3000 hp and incorporates the Aventador’s signature steering wheel, central console and taillights.

At Miami, even fishing boats were getting in on the action. Exhibit A: Hydra-Sports Custom’s matching Camaro, 23 Bay Bolt and 42-foot CC.

Fast, flashy and fancy, but we’re left feeling somewhat ambivalent. What do you think about matching cars and boats?
