Heesen's 70m flagship superyacht Project Kometa introduced at Monaco yacht show

The new Heesen flagship yacht Project Kometa will be delivered in 2016.

On the first morning of the Monaco yacht show, Heesen Yachts presented the design details of its custom 70-metre superyacht Kometa.

Project Kometa is currently in build at Heesen’s yard in The Netherlands, with the hull construction at a substantial stage. She is the fourth Heesen yacht to feature the innovative Fast Displacement Hull Form designed by Van Oossanen Naval Architects. ‘The Fast Displacement Hull Form offers multiple advantages, first and foremost is efficiency,’ says Perry Van Oossanen.

‘This is a very exciting flagship project for Heesen shipyards,’ says Mark Cavendish of Heesen, ‘[our] biggest to date, and one of the most impressive with her extraordinary top speed.’

Kometa has a contractual maximum speed of 30 knots, quite a good clip for a 70-metre yacht. She outpaces Heesen’s current flagship, superyacht Galactica Star, which did 28 knots.

The owner is a repeat Heesen client, and Kometa will be will be the largest yacht they’ve had as well. ‘Speed was important [to the owner],’ says Cavendish. ‘They liked Heesen’s styling, so Kometa has a low, sleek, fast and sporty styling.’
