"RYA to carry out powerboat racing review

The RYA will be conducting a thorough review of powerboat racing in the UK to help shape the future of the sport

Powerboat racing is due to come under the spotlight in the latest Royal Yachting Association (RYA) review, it has been announced.

Led by project manager Peter Cardy, the review will look at every aspect of the sport and its governance within the UK, including training, licences, officials and competitor participation.

Powerboat racing clubs, licence holders, officials and members of the public will all be invited to give their views on how the sport should be run and so help to shape its future.

Opinions will be gathered through online surveys, personal interviews and discussion groups. The entire process will run from July 1-17, the RYA explained in a statement.

Sarah Treseder, CEO of the Royal Yachting Association, said: “This is a unique opportunity for the powerboating community to make a meaningful and important contribution towards this process and all of the information received will be carefully considered during the consultation.”

The RYA powerboat racing review coincides with the P1 Grand Prix of the Seas at Gosport, which will see 30,000 spectators head to the South Coast town from July 11-12.
