Joining forces in navigation

Norway’s e-navigation specialist Navtor has joined forces with Nautic AB, a leading provider of navigational equipment, charts and publications to the Swedish market, to launch a new navigation company called Navtor Nautic AB.

The new jointly owned operation based in Gothenburg, Sweden, aims to leverage the expertise of the two businesses to offer a fully comprehensive navigational data package to the international shipping industry.

Tor Svanes, Navtor managing director and CEO, said: “Paper charts are still a vital piece of the navigational jigsaw and, to provide a ‘one stop shop’ for our customers, delivering all the data they require, we saw a strategic need to team up with a leading supplier. Nautic, with its 100-year track record of success in this segment.”

He added that the new joint business, Navtor Nautic AB, will allow the companies to serve the maritime industry in the most comprehensive, efficient and quality-focused way and it's exactly what the customers want.

Nautic AB, which began trading in 1915, is a family owned business, currently run by the founder’s grandson Lars-Olof Traung. However, but now his son Johan Traung will step into the position of managing director of Nautic Holding AB.

Navtor meanwhile, only formed in 2011 and has quickly risen to become a leading name in e-navigation, with over 50% of the Norwegian fleet subscribing to its easy to use ENC service.

In addition to forming the new company, both companies will also continue to operate separately.
