Rare loss in Gothenburg for Ben Ainslie Racing America’s Cup team

In a rare defeat, Olympic Sailing hero Sir Ben Ainslie suffered a minor set back as his America's Cup Land Rover BAR team finished third in the second America's Cup World Series regatta.

Land Rover BAR won the opening regatta in Portsmouth in July, but Emirates Team New Zealand were the winners in Gothenburg, followed by Team Oracle USA in second spot.

The third race in the World Series regattas – which count towards the seedings for the America’s Cup qualifying races – takes place in Bermuda, which is hosting the 2017 America’s Cup, in October.

Ainslie told the Telegraph: “It is still early days as we build towards the America’s Cup proper in Bermuda in 2017, but right now I’m happy with where we are alongside the likes of USA and New Zealand.”
