Project update: in build Wider 165 superyacht on the move

Wider’s next superyacht to launch, the 49.98 metre Wider 165, has been spotted on the move in Italy, readying for the next stage of construction. Wider Yachts revealed the plans for its new superyacht during the Miami Yacht & Brokerage show in February 2014.

Wider has just launched its first superyacht, the 46 metre Wider 150 Genesi, which will be overtaken by the new nearly 50 metre Wider 165 when it is launched.

The aluminium motor yacht features interior and exterior design by Fulvio De Simoni as well as design input from Wider president Tilli Antonelli and the Wider team of designers and engineers. The Wider 165 will feature a submersible tender bay on the portside of the yacht, a touch-and-go helipad and a 'Wider beach,' a spacious transom swim-and-sunbathing deck complete with indoor swimming pool. The beach also converts to a garage that accommodates a floating launching system for the highly customisable Wider 32 superyacht tender.

The first Wider 165 will have a hybrid diesel/electric propulsion system that will allow for reduced fuel consumption when high speeds are not needed. All the on board energy sources are controlled by the Wider Management System, a next generation, smart, independent and incorporated system that controls the power supplied by the shore connection, gensets and battery packs, distributing it between the hotel systems, propulsion system and recharging the battery packs, as needed. The Wider Management System was created with the help of American company Emerson Industrial Automation.

The launch of the Wider 165 will round out the Italian builder's superyacht offerings, which will also one day include the new Wider 125, which was introduced at the Miami boat show this year. The new Wider 165 is expected to launch in 2016.
