Prysmian showcases new wind power technology at EWEA

New innovations in wind power technology have been showcased at the annual European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) conference in Paris.

Italian headquartered Prysmian Group, supplier to the energy and telecom cable systems industry, exhibited its new products and services at the event held on 17-20 November.

These included AC and DC power transmission submarine cable systems and turbine cabling solutions. Prominently featured was the group’s new Feltoflex HV cable system for moveable interconnection between platforms.

Prysmian is experienced in the manufacture of wet design EPR insulated cables up to 72.5kV class and has recently completed the electrical type tests on its 66kV complete submarine cable system. Tests were carried out in accordance with the CIGRE and IEC protocols.

With the success in qualification of its 66kV system the group hopes to enable offshore wind developers to step the intra-array system voltage up from the typical 33kV to 66kV.

The group works with three facilities dedicated to submarine cable products, namely Arco Felice near Naples, Pikkala in Finland and Drammen in Norway. Also on hand are two installation vessels, Giulio Verne and Cable Enterprise.

Other projects completed in 2015 include the commissioning and handover of four HVDC offshore grid connections for the BorWin2, HelWin1, Helwin2 and SylWin1 wind farm clusters in the North Sea.
