Polish shipyard to build fishing trawler

Poland’s Nauta Ship Repair Yard recently signed a contract to build an 87m x 18m fishing trawler for a Scottish owner

Nauta Shiprepair Yard CEO Krzysztof Juchniewicz says the contract is another important step forward in the company’s newbuilding activities. “So far the Yard has built mainly partly equipped fishing trawlers. Now we have started the next stage, which is the construction of turnkey vessels, where we will not only build the steel hull but integrate all sophisticated equipment.”

During last two years Nauta has signed contracts for 12 partly outfitted purse seiner trawlers for Danish and Norwegian customers.

The fishing trawler will be equipped with fish finding equipment and catching and storage system suitable for different type of school pelagic species. The complete Wartsila propulsion plant, including 7,000 kW main engine and two bow thrusters, will provide excellent maneuverability during catching and purse seining operations.

Established in 1926, Nauta Ship Repair Yard specializes in building vessels and hulls, repairs and classification inspections of civilian crafts as well as repairs and rebuilding of military craft. The shipyard is also getting increasingly involved in newbuilds and production of steel offshore structures. Over 90 years of its activity, Nauta has performed extensive repairs on various types of ships. It has also designed and built nearly 500 fishing and special purpose vessels.

At the end of 2012 Nauta transferred most of its production facilities to the former site of Gdynia Shipyard. The acquisition of new land and water area has created enormous growth opportunities for Nauta Shipyard.
