NEW! EXTENDED RUNTIME THRUSTERS

VETUS introduces bow thrusters with extended runtime

Electric bow and stern thrusters, introduced to the leisure market by VETUS over thirty years ago, are still the undisputed choice for manoeuvrability at low speeds. And whilst the highly evolved modern versions meet the requirements of the majority of boat owners, there is a distinct new demand for a product that can bring just that little bit extra!

With the increasing popularity of ‘integrated joystick vessel control systems’ and the realization that even twin engine vector systems often benefit from thruster assistance, we saw the need for a major improvement in thruster performance… increasing the runtime without overheating!

Manually controlled docking and close-quarters manoeuvres with an electric thruster typically involve short bursts of thruster power for a few seconds to provide lateral assistance. However, ‘integrated joystick control systems’ utilise thrusters as substitutes for rudder steering during low speed manoeuvres, thereby demanding more frequent and much longer periods of thrust.

With input from leading manufacturers in the industry, VETUS has developed a new range of thrusters that addresses this special requirement. The motors designed for these thrusters develop the same thrust force at a fraction of the heat build-up. These ‘extended runtime thrusters’ can be operated continuously for at least 7 minutes without overheating!

The result of extensive tests by our network in the marine industry, consumers, builders, and leading component suppliers leaves no doubt that the new standard for joystick docking thrusters has been set. In addition, an application such as rental fleets that encounter inexperienced boaters, or a commercial vessel, could also benefit highly from this extra feature!

The extended runtime thrusters in brief

Apart from the specially designed motors, extended runtime thrusters offer the same benefits as regular VETUS thrusters:

• Extended runtime of at least 7 minutes offers greater freedom in joystick

manoeuvring

• Single propeller design: Highly efficient, minimum noise;

- Extremely quiet operation - the quietest thrusters on the market

- The single propeller creates minimal flow disturbance in the tunnel

- Compact and streamlined tail piece optimizes water flow

- Maintenance parts are easy to reach and replace

- The single, synthetic propeller reduces mass, allowing more responsive

operation and quicker change of direction. In addition, the stress on the

gearbox is minimized and corrosion of the propeller eliminated

• Helical gears used in the tailpiece minimise transmission noise

• The use of a flexible coupling between tail piece and motor reduces vibrations

• The unique propeller blade design minimises cavitation and therefore noise

• All VETUS thrusters are easy to install and supplied with clear installation

and operation instructions. Installation of the Extended Run Time thrusters

requires the same skill set as all other VETUS electric thrusters
