Over the past 30 years, catamaran design and materials processing technologies have each developed beyond all recognition.
The Agena Marin Taxi catamaran brings these two strands of development together by combining advantage composite technology with a new hull form to give dramatic improvements not only in fuel efficiency but in sea kindliness, wash reduction and ride quality. Heavy planning catamarans that need massive engines to drive them are missing the point, and wasting most of advantages in catamaran design.
An Ultrafine Displacement Hullform (UDH) combines deep, ultrafine cleaver bows with a high bridge deck and parallel lines aft of amidships for minimal drag and excellent sea keeping manners. The hull is designed to wave pierce and never “slam” – resulting in more comfortable ride for the crew and passengers.
We want to prove that with the right hull design and construction, engine power can be reduced to fraction of what conventional hull designs need. Indeed, the weight reduction improves various other aspects of the boat’s ride and performance and leaves buoyancy available for payload.
Using vacuum resin infusion with unique hull and deck composite engineering allows the lightest, strongest, toughest boat possible. It gives maximum stability with industry-leading fuel efficiency. The 9,7m Taxi cat will give 20 knots in almost any conditions with only 40hp each side, basically less than a third of what some designs require.
