Glass: From Micron Test to Chemical Tempering
Invisible flaws to strength:Marine glass tech
The tempered & tested difference in marine glass.
Glass is not just a building material; with its aesthetics, transparency and durability, it shapes our lives in a unique way. However, for a piece of glass to become safe, long-lasting and flawless, it must go through a meticulous production process. We manage this process with advanced technology and our team of experts, prioritising quality at every step.
Micron Test: The First Control Stage
The production process begins with the micron test, where the thickness and measurement standards of the glass are checked. This step lays a reliable foundation for the following processes.
Punch Test
At this stage, pressure is applied to the glass for approximately six seconds. The aim is to measure the glass’s resistance against point loads and to check its safety level.
4-Point Bending Test
The 4-Point Bending Test is carried out to break the glass in a controlled manner. This process measures the glass’s resistance to bending and breaking. As a result, it is determined under which conditions the glass may fracture, and the necessary safety standards are ensured.
Precision Cutting: Accuracy in Measurement
Once the checks are completed, the glass is cut to the required size and shape. With state-of-the-art machinery, perfect precision is achieved in every cut. This step ensures both the accuracy of dimensions and flawless edges.
CNC Grinding: Safety and Aesthetics
The cut glass undergoes grinding in CNC machines. This process makes the glass edges safe while also giving them an aesthetic appearance. It ensures both elegance and safety on surfaces that users frequently touch.
Washing: A Pure and Clean Surface
After grinding, the glass is washed in special machines. All dust and residues are removed, and the glass is prepared in a completely clean state for the next stages.
Edge Painting: Protective and Decorative Touch
The cleaned glass is coloured at special edge-painting stations. This process not only enhances the appearance of the glass but also provides an additional protective layer.
Tempering: The Key to Durability
In this stage, the glass is exposed to high temperatures and then rapidly cooled. As a result, the glass becomes much more durable and a safer product for users.
Chemical Tempering: A Distinctive Position in the Industry
Beyond traditional tempering, we are one of the few companies in Turkey with the capability for chemical tempering technology. This special process increases the durability of the glass while providing superior strength even in thinner forms. Thanks to advanced technology and tailor-made projects, chemical tempering offers a major advantage.
Through the special ion-exchange process applied to the glass surface, sodium (Na⁺) ions in the glass are replaced by potassium (K⁺) ions in a potassium salt bath. This method makes the glass:
- 4–8 times stronger,
- more resistant to scratches,
- more protective against thermal shocks,
- and safer, as it breaks into blunt pieces instead of sharp fragments.
Thanks to this superior technology, chemically tempered glass is preferred in architectural interior applications, automotive, furniture and decoration, electronics and industrial products, security and sports areas, transportation and infrastructure projects – essentially in all areas where high durability and sensitivity are required. It offers significant advantages beyond ordinary production methods.
Conclusion: Quality and Safety at Every Stage
From micron testing to chemical tempering, every step aims to improve the quality and safety of glass. Each piece we produce with our state-of-the-art machinery and expert team meets not only aesthetic expectations but also the highest standards of safety and durability.
For us, glass is not just a product; it is a solution that can be safely used, enrich living spaces with aesthetics, and add lasting value to life.
